Abstract

The tendon tissue has little regenerative potential. Hence, tendon healing after an injury is characterized by the formation of fibrous scar tissue. Tendon injury is the most common disease condition seen in orthopedics and causes pain, dysfunction, and work-related disorders.
The failure of tendon healing and regeneration after rotator cuff repair in the shoulder joint is commonly observed and is a difficult problem to manage. Tendon regeneration for the management of tendon injury through tissue reengineering is one of the most interesting topics in orthopedics. Currently, for the biological and mechanical reinforcement of tendon regeneration, biologic agents such as mesenchymal stem cells, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), autologous graft, homologous grafts, acellular dermal matrix or atelocollagen, etc. are often used in clinical practice and have sometimes shown good results. However, to ensure efficacy and results long-term follow up is necessary.
